Summary
Computers are one of the most incredible inventions that we have ever come up with. They have changed the way we live and how the world operates. They have changed the way information is transmitted and how communication happens between people. Computers have given people access to information that would have been restricted to just a few people. Computers have made business more productive by doing jobs that were once performed by humans. Computers have also transformed. They have gone from huge machines that would take up a whole room, to devices you can now hold in your hand. Today there are several types of computers. Analog Computers were computers used to make mathematical calculations but they are not used anymore. Hybrid Computers are a combination of both digital and analog computers. Mainframe Computers are used in large organizations because of their massive memory storage abilities and because they can run numerous devices at once. Microcomputers are small computers that have a microprocessor and its processing unit contained in one unit. There are multiple types of microcomputers such as desktops, laptops and personal digital assistants. Desktops are used widely in both offices and in people’s homes. Laptops are similar to desktop computers except that they work on a single battery and are able to be carried around. Personal Digital Assistants are small hand-held computers and have several advantages, such as by touch screens, data storage and being able to connect to the Internet, without the bulkiness of a larger computer. As technology advances there are sure to be more types of computers in the future.
Reaction
Computers have become one of the most important things in our life. Today most people could not even imagine having to live without a computer. Even trying to think of all that they do is staggering. They help us with business, homework, health… Today almost everything that we do involves computers. Even in writing this paper I am using a computer. As computers continue to advance they will continue to be put into use in even more areas. It is getting to the point that computers are so common that we rarely think about them. Things that used to take months, possibly years, computers allow us to do in minutes or days. Computers have become totally integrated into our lives today.
