Summary
Computers are one of the most incredible inventions that we have ever come up with. They have changed the way we live and how the world operates. They have changed the way information is transmitted and how communication happens between people. Computers have given people access to information that would have been restricted to just a few people. Computers have made business more productive by doing jobs that were once performed by humans. Computers have also transformed. They have gone from huge machines that would take up a whole room, to devices you can now hold in your hand. Today there are several types of computers.  Analog Computers were computers used to make mathematical calculations but they are not used anymore. Hybrid Computers are a combination of both digital and analog computers. Mainframe Computers are used in large organizations because of their massive memory storage abilities and because they can run numerous devices at once. Microcomputers are small computers that have a microprocessor and its processing unit contained in one unit. There are multiple types of microcomputers such as desktops, laptops and personal digital assistants. Desktops are used widely in both offices and in people’s homes. Laptops are similar to desktop computers except that they work on a single battery and are able to be carried around. Personal Digital Assistants are small hand-held computers and have several advantages, such as by touch screens, data storage and being able to connect to the Internet, without the bulkiness of a larger computer. As technology advances there are sure to be more types of computers in the future.
Reaction
Computers have become one of the most important things in our life. Today most people could not even imagine having to live without a computer. Even trying to think of all that they do is staggering. They help us with business, homework, health… Today almost everything that we do involves computers. Even in writing this paper I am using a computer. As computers continue to advance they will continue to be put into use in even more areas. It is getting to the point that computers are so common that we rarely think about them. Things that used to take months, possibly years, computers allow us to do in minutes or days. Computers have become totally integrated into our lives today.

           http://www.buzzle.com/articles/uses-of-computers-in-society.html

Summary
According to the article, computers are very important to our lives and societies. Computers are used in many different fields. Some of these fields are science, medicine, education, banking, crime investigation and entertainment. Science has made many new contributions to society thanks to the use of computers. Many of the new inventions in the area of technology would not have been possible without the aid of computers. The reason is that many of the large calculations needed for this technology would be almost impossible without computers. Computers also help doctors improve the treatment for their patients. It has also done a lot for people suffering from many diseases. Computers have improved x-rays and helped make machines such as MRI’s possible. Computers help many people through many dimensions of treatment. Computers have revolutionized the way education works. The internet has given students access to information in a way that was never possible before. There are also audio visual aids that would have been impractical before. It has also allowed for people to attend classes online instead of having to go to the university. Computers have also improved the banking industry. Now banking transactions can take place without the person needing to go to the bank in person. There are many uses for computers in the criminal justice system. From closed circuit cameras to computer assisted monitoring systems, computers have made crime monitoring and tracking more efficient. Computers have also become very valuable in crime scene investigation. Finally, computers have helped to revolutionize the entertainment industry. The main contribution is in video games which would not exist without computers. Computers also make the new special effects and graphics possible. This is only a fraction of what computers can do. Especially considering that computers are getting better every day.

Reaction
Computers are important for all of society. They are one of the most important inventions that have been discovered in the modern era. Computers started out as simple machines meant to do mathematical calculations but have become so much more. Computers have revolutionized society in ways that no one could have imagined twenty years ago. There is no way to fully understand all of the things that are now possible thanks to computers. They have become so much a part of our lives that we often do not even think about all that they do for us.

Summary:
Of the most important things in the world today is the Computer. Because of this the computer science field is growing and becoming a very good career choice. Computer science includes many disciplines including programing and software development. It is becoming a very important field since many companies and schools rely on the computer on a daily basis. Many companies need people who have the knowledge in the development of computer science and computing. There are some small companies that are in such need of computer science professionals that they will hire people who are still in school and help to pay for their education. People who receive degrees as database professionals are also in demand. These people help companies to set up computer networks to meet their needs and are often responsible for the security of these networks.
Reaction:
I like this major because it is a good field to get into. It pays well and is in demand all over the world. I also like computers and enjoy working with them. This makes it less of a job and something that I enjoy doing. It is also a career field that is growing and promises to continue to grow in the future. For me, it is enjoyable to work with new technology and try to find the best way to use it. This is the kind of mentality that is needed in the computer science field. It makes me feel good when I can do things with the computer, and I want to be able to do even more. Being able to get paid for playing with computers is a job that is almost too good to be true.

Understanding Tobacco Consumers

Zid, Linda Abu-Shalback. Understanding Tobacco Consumers. 08 Feb. 2011. 12 Feb. 2011<http://www.cspnet.com/ME2/Audiences/dirmod.asp?sid=&nm=&type=Publishing&mod=Publications::Article&mid=8F3A7027421841978F18BE895F87F791&tier=4&id=084EF28018674E1A9485AC135EDAB75D&AudID=6C81F2B488CE41838BC84AF1AE2AF9CD>.

Summary:
According to Linda Abu-Shalback Zid, in her article, “Understanding tobacco consumers,” tobacco consumers tend to be very loyal consumers. According to research, tobacco consumers are more likely than other consumers to switch stores if the store they usually shop at does not have their brand two times. Also, tobacco consumers are usually loyal to their brand and rarely buy a different brand. Tobacco buyers buy packs more often than they buy cartons, but those that buy cartons are less likely to switch stores because they go to the store less often. Heavy smokers also tend to buy their cigarettes at smoke shops while lighter smokers tend to buy theirs at convenience stores. By knowing how people shop, it allows stores to better target the customer.
Reaction:
Information like this is good for understanding how people shop and what controls their habits. I find it interesting that tobacco consumers are so loyal to their brands. I don’t know why this is the case, but it makes a person wonder. Most cigarettes are the same so I do not know why it makes such a difference. Still, I can see how this type of information would be important to people who run convenience stores. This would also be information that people who want to understand the habits of smokers would find interesting.

Summary:
In the article, “School boy smoking: a cause for concern!” Ike Vavi discusses some of the problems associated with youth smoking. He talks about the danger caused by smoking and how it is a disturbing trend. One of the issues is that it is no longer taboo for young boys to smoke. He points out the way they no longer even try to hide it from adults anymore. Vavi also talks about how the adults are enabling this unhealthy behavior. One example, he points to is the shop owner who is ready to sell cigarettes to the boys that are too young to smoke. Another factor for Vavi, is that parents are not as involved as much in their children’s lives. Finally, Vavi talks about the role peer pressure plays in a young person’s decision to smoke. He claims that peer pressure plays a big role in this problem of young people starting to smoke. He said that many young boys think that it makes them appear manlier and raises their status among their peers. Vavi claims that the way to combat this is through education and stiffer penalties for those who sell cigarettes to young people.
Reaction:
I agree with this article. Many people that I know start to smoke because of pressure from their friends. Young people also tend to do the same things they see other people do, especially when those people are their own age. The article also points out another factor. That is the people who provide the cigarettes. People have tried many things to stop smoking using various methods. They have restricted advertising for cigarettes and made it harder for underage people to buy them. However, the best way to stop smoking is to make it uncool. As long as young people think that smoking makes them look cool, they will find a way to get them.

Summary:
Engineering is a elements in any industry. The engineer must develop, improve and create a lot of innovations in his field. There are several types of engineering, such as aerospace engineering; this major builds on the installation of aircraft and vehicles, missiles, helicopters and satellites. This major is very rare because it requires great accuracy. Architectural engineering is a specialization that is concerned about the development of buildings and palaces, which is very important. In Agricultural engineering, the focus is on food, farming and food products in the market. Bioengineers care about genetics and how to use chemistry to improve natural products. Chemical engineers change the chemical makeup of materials to improve them and to keep them useful. Computer engineers know how to design computer programs for information storage and to improve technology. Electrical engineers specialize in designing electrical networks and in working out the safest way to use electrical systems in a given situation.
Reaction:
There are many majors in engineering field. This means that students will have many opportunities to succeed in the engineering field. Engineers are needed in almost every field. These are jobs that usually pay well and have good opportunities for advancing. However, the different fields in engineering can be difficult since they tale a lot of expertise to master. Still, those who take the time to master their field are well rewarded. I hope to work in the field of engineering and believe that it will be a good field for me.

gs, and I found my self in this field. However, this major is very difficult, and it requires a lot of work in order to succeed in it.
